WILLIAMSVILLE - Representatives from Tops Markets and key event sponsors recently presented a check for $180,000 to Roswell Park Cancer Institute in support of cancer research and patient support programs.

The funds were raised at the fifth annual Tops 5K/10K Family Walk/Run on Aug. 25. 1,300 runners and walkers participated in the event, the most in the event’s history. The Tops 5K/10K is a family-friendly event held each August in Williamsville to raise funds through Roswell Park’s Team Cure Challenge program.

The gift was presented to Roswell Park representatives in the hospital’s atrium in downtown Buffalo. Tops Markets President and CEO Frank Curci and Roswell Park President and CEO Dr. Donald L. Trump were present to share their thoughts on the impact of this gift.

“The generosity of Tops, the sponsors and all the participants makes the Tops 5K/10K one of the most rewarding events for us at Roswell Park,” said Dr. Trump. “This important donation helps fund cutting-edge cancer research and compassionate, innovative patient care in our ongoing effort to find cures and save lives. On behalf of our 31,000 active patients and our dedicated scientists and physicians, thank you for this very generous gift.”

“We believe in the innovative research being done by our neighbors at Roswell,” said Frank Curci, Tops president and CEO. “Cancer touches the lives of everyone, and annually, we encourage our own associates, community members and business partners to join us in supporting the mission of Roswell Park.”

The TOPS 5K/10K is presented by TOPS Markets and Pepsi, and co-sponsored by National Fuel, Bank of America, WIVB-TV, WNLO-TV and Fusion Sales Group.

Tops Markets is a proud supporter of Roswell Park Cancer Institute and has donated more than $1 million to the hospital through various programs and fundraising events, including the Paint Box Project, the Bosom Buddies Walk, Carly's Club, All-Star Night and the annual Tops 5K/10K Family Walk/Run.

The sixth annual Tops 5K/10K Family Walk/Run for Roswell will take place on Saturday, Aug 24 at Tops’ headquarters in Williamsville.
