Hamburg seeks volunteers for MLK Day event

On Monday, Jan. 21, The Western New York Regional Volunteer Center (in partnership with The Service Collaborative of Western New York, Inc. and United Way of Buffalo & Erie County) will celebrate MLK Day 2013 with the Village of Hamburg and the Food Bank of Western New York. AmeriCorps members, students, and community volunteers will mobilize to turn Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s life and teachings into community action.

Volunteers will work together to collect canned/non-perishable goods from the front porch of each household in the Village of Hamburg.

Plastic bags will be provided to each village household a week prior to the event.

To Participate, Village of Hamburg resident just leave a plastic bag filled with canned/non-perishable goods on your front porch before 8:30 a.m .on Monday, Jan. 21.

Volunteers will be collecting all goods throughout the village between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.

For non-village residents, there will be a drop-off location at the Hamburg Memorial Youth Center, 200 Prospect Ave, Hamburg. Volunteers will be located outside the building to receive your donation between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.

If you’re interested in participating as a volunteer for this event, you must pre-register at www.VolunteerWNY.org. Volunteer reception for the event will take place on Monday, Jan. 21 at 8:30am at the Hamburg Memorial Youth Center.

All participating volunteers under the age of 18 must have a parental consent/release. All participating volunteers under the age of 13 must have parental guidance.

Parental Consent/Release Waivers can be found at www.VolunteerWNY.org. Please note that this is an outdoor event. Volunteers should dress accordingly for winter weather.
