DeSales students participate in Election Day

You’re never too young to participate in the electoral process, as was demonstrated by students at DeSales Catholic School Tuesday.

The elementary school students were introduced to the voting process with an opportunity to choose their favorite in the presidential race, and also to decide on the hot lunch selection to be served in the school cafeteria one day next week.

Student votes were cast at polling places located throughout the school, and results of the students’ choices were announced after Election Day. The voting program also encourages parents to discuss the election process with their children, and to take their students along when they headed to the polls.

DeSales teachers Jen Engel and Linda Crofts coordinated the election at the school.

“Voting is one of the most important duties we have as Americans,” Engel said. “It is crucial for our students to get into the habit of learning about the issues and casting their votes. If we can develop this habit at an early age, we will have better informed voters in the future. It’s gratifying to see the students when they realize that they can make their voices heard.”

DeSales is a regional Catholic school educating students from Early Childhood through eighth grade. Located on Chestnut Ridge Road in Lockport, DeSales welcomes families of all faiths from throughout Eastern Niagara and Orleans counties. For more information visit www.desalescatholicschool.org
