Art gallery makes plans for contests, classes and creativity

Enjoy the Journey Art Gallery, 1168 Orchard Park Road, West Seneca will kick off the new year with a variety of creative classes and opportunities.

Photos are being accepted through Jan. 24 for “Inspiration of Winter,” an amateur photography contest. Photographers may submit up to three 8- x 10-inch photos mounted on white or black foam core board.

Please do not leave any border around photos, which can be mounted to the board with double-sided tape or spray adhesive. The photographer’s name and photo title should appear on the back of each entry. There is an entry fee of $15 for up to three photos, and prizes will be awarded during a reception from 1 to 3 p.m. Jan. 26.

The exhibit will remain on display at the gallery through Feb. 23.An opening reception for “Creativity Abound,” an art exhibit featuring the work of West Seneca East and West Senior High School Art Academy students, will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. Feb. 8. The evening will include a silent art auction to raise scholarship funds for West Seneca art students pursuing an education in the visual arts. Gallery members will be donating artwork for the auction, so please come in and make a bid! Scholarships will be awarded in May to students. The “Creativity Abound” exhibit will remain on display through March 2.

Acrylic painting classes, a four-week course with artist Phillip Schulte, will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesdays, Feb. 20 through March 13. Participants will learn how to work in the medium of acrylics, and the fee for the course is just $80.

The next Wine, Women & Art class will take place at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 21. Guests will create a beautiful set of wine glasses with artist Andrea Oswald while sipping on wine and enjoying other goodies. The cost of the class is just $25 and includes all supplies.

What’s your creative muse? There are many different kinds: Muses for writing, painting, singing, music, dance and more. Oftentimes we need assistance in getting that creative mood flowing. The “Creative Muse” is a casual once-a-month get-together at the gallery for artists of all kinds to connect with other creative individuals to share experiences and enjoy a place of support, not judgment. All are welcome and participants are asked to bring a refreshment to share. The next session will take place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Feb. 28.

Beginner and advanced colored pencil classes with artist Cindi O’Mara will begin on March 19. Please call the gallery for details.
