Benefit planned for NW woman paralyzed by a tragic accident

BY: Metro Source Staff | February 20, 2013

A benefit is planned from 2 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, at St. Johnsburg Fire Co., 7165 Ward Road, North Tonawanda, for Dawn Daigler.

Daigler had an accident back in May, 2012, which left her with a long term spinal cord injury. She continues to fight daily to regain strength. Due to her injuries she is experiencing financial hardship. She needs around the clock care and medical insurance has run out making it impossible to attain the therapy she needs. She is currently being moved to a long term care facility at ECMC. All proceeds from the benefit will go towards her long term medical care expenses.

Daigler, 37, has touched many lives in the community through her generosity, compassion and friendship and was a dedicated hard working individual. She enjoyed line dancing and loves listening to country music and going to live concerts. Daigler is a resident in the town of Wheatfield who graduated in 1993 from Niagara Wheatfield High School, attended Niagara County Community College, and is a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. She may not walk again but clings to the hope for small movement to her extremities.

Admission is $5 at the door and kids 5 and under are free. There will be a clown that will be doing face painting. Krolick’s Chicken BBQ dinners on sale for $9 starting at 4 p.m. until they are gone, so order your tickets ahead. Chicken dinner includes a half chicken, salt potatoes and chef salad with a roll and butter. Pizza, baked goods, coffee and soda will also be available for purchase along with $2 draft beer. The event will include a basket auction with more than 200 baskets donated by various businesses and friends, and a silent auction with high-end items valued over $100.

There will be two live bands for entertainment featuring Common Ground and Acoustic Mile. Special guest Cate Laughlan from Season 14 of The Biggest Loser will be joining us to celebrate and support Daigler’s journey. She will be signing autographs and will be available for health and fitness questions. There will be a 50/50 split and for a $1 donation, a chance to win a 46” Sanyo LCD TV. This event is being sponsored by Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, along with friends and family of Daigler. If you are interested in pre-sale tickets or making a basket or baked good, please call Pam Boudreau, Benefit Chairman at 946-8760 or email Pam at: pamboudreau33@yahoo.com.
