Just Say No! program begins at YMCA

BY: Metro Source Staff | November 04, 2012

The first Just Say No! Program for this school year will be held Saturday, Nov. 3.

The 2012-2013 school year is the 22nd year that the Barge Canal Optimist Club has provided this program at the Greater Lockport Family YMCA. JSN! is for students in third, fourth and fifth grades and is open to students from all area school districts.

Registration will begin at 6:30 p.m. and program start at 7 p.m. Students spend the evening playing games in the gym and courts, swimming and enjoying a snack while participating in the monthly educational program.

The November educational program members of the Barge Canal Optimist Club will present the Optimist International Internet Safety Program. Faux Paw the Techno Cat will help teach the students the three essential rules of Internet safety: Keep Safe, Keep Away, Keep Telling. The Internet Keep Safe Coalition in partnership with Optimist International is dedicated to protecting children from the growing threat of Internet predators and online dangers.

For more information on Faux Paw the Techno Cat: Adventures in the Internet go to www.iKeepSafe.org.

Students are encouraged to attend the monthly Just Say No! After attending three programs in one school year, they will be awarded a classic JSN! Shirt.

The Just Say NO! program is sponsored by the Barge Canal Optimist Club and The Greater Lockport YMCA. All activities are lead and supervised by members and friends of the Barge Canal Optimist Club. The BCOC is an active service organization who’s club motto is “Friend of Youth.” The Barge Canal Optimist Club provided the Just Say No! and other youth programs like bicycle safety, fifth-grade girl’s basketball and Girl Power! to students in the Lockport community for more than 20 years.
