St. Marys clothing drive nets large result for the less fortunate

BY: Community Papers of WNY Staff | May 19, 2011

In spite of rainy weather last weekend, the St. Vincent de Paul Society at St. Mary of the Assumption Church collected an abundance of used clothes to be donated to the poor. An additional truck was needed to transport the donations from the church parking lot to the St. Vincent de Paul store in Buffalo.

Twice per year, the organization holds the clothing drive at St. Mary’s. According to Pastor Rev. Paul Steller, there is always a steady stream of people willing to lend a hand to the less fortunate in our area.

“These donations are very important to the people who receive them,” expressed Fr. Steller. “Our community is very generous in its service to the poor, which is an important part of our call as followers of Christ.”

The St. Vincent de Paul Society is just one of over 50 active ministries at St. Mary’s. The next clothing drive will be held in the fall, and will be coordinated with a household goods drive by the Jr. Ladies of Charity.
