Buffalo City Mission goes above and beyond

BUFFALO - Buffalonians won’t be going hungry this holiday season thanks to fund-raising efforts of employees and residents from the McGuire Group’s health care and rehabilitation facilities.
The five facilities, which are located in Cheektowaga, Hamburg, Lancaster, North Tonawanda and West Seneca, have been engaged in a friendly competition to see which one could raise the most money to purchase meals for those at the City Mission.
Together they far outweighed their original goals raising more than $1,700, the equivalent of 864 meals.
“The best thing about the competition was the residents’ and employees’ enthusiasm at every one of our facilities,” stated Rhonda Gorman, activity director at Garden Gate Health Care Facility and coordinator of the event. “We have a resident here at Garden Gate who is thankful for the assistance the City Mission has provided to one of her family members. She is now so grateful for all that the McGuire Group facility employees have done to help the organization.”
In order to keep the enthusiasm level high, each facility hung posters and kept a chart that was updated weekly indicating the dollar amounts that each facility raised.
“It’s very rewarding to know that so many people in our community will benefit from this effort, especially during this time of the year,” said Gorman.
