NORTH TONAWANDA - North Tonawanda Police responded to a call Wednesday evening at 10:30 p.m. to a report of a domestic disturbance at a home on Oliver Street.

They arrived at the home to see the victim Ralph Donald Stone, Jr., 24, of North Tonawanda, thrashing about.

At first, officers could not determine if Stone was being combative or not, however they soon determined he had been gasping for air as a result of a large cut to his throat.

“He was bleeding profusely, so Officer Tim Sylvester applied pressure to the wound as they contacted the fire department,” said North Tonawanda Police Chief Randy Szukala.

After administering immediate first aid to Stone, who was suffering from stab wounds to the neck, the fire department pronounced him dead at the scene.

His girlfriend, Jennifer Marchant, 23, also of North Tonawanda, is accused of stabbing her boyfriend in the throat with a six to eight inch kitchen knife.

When law enforcement arrived she was found in the living room of the Oliver Street apartment.

At this point in the investigation it is not clear whether Stone or Marchant contacted emergency services, however Szukala indicated that both of their voices can be heard on the 911 emergency call.

Merchant remains in custody in Niagara County jail and is charged with second-degree murder.
